WHAT WAS IT? Harley Davidson XL 883C Sportster with the 1200cc conversion. WHAT DID THEY DO TO IT? On its way to Hoggin the Bridge in 2007 it blew up. Engine failure was caused by insufficient oil pressure. The one lesson learnt from this is, if you like to ride your bike for more than 700 miles a year do not use a Sportster. The bike was left sitting in the garage when a Brainwave hit me in 2008. Instead of conforming to the obvious solution of another Harley engine, lets be different. 'Lets do Diesel', I thought. First thoughts were of a single cylinder petter engine with cranking handle and pepper pot exhaust but power to weight ratio made this impractical. On visiting DieselBike.net the Punsun engine was an obvious choice. I imported the engine from China relatively cheaply then Rip off Britain stepped in with total charges £30.00 less than the cost of the engine. Brian and Barry provided advice, welding and fabrication. Special thanks to Brian for the exhausts and his ability to produce such a wonderful primary drive cover. Richard Cotton Engineering (01403786555) for maching the jack shaft. Katie Airbrush Art for the tank painting.
